Historical background

The company that is now known as Seasafe, started in the marine software business around thirty-five years ago, when the company name was SIKOB. SIKOB was also the name of the software package for naval architectural calculations that the company developed.

The SIKOB software package was a modular system, made up of many separate programs that enabled a range of hydrostatics-based calculations to be undertaken for ship type hulls, and later, offshore platforms such as semi-submersible oilrigs. These calculations were made from a geometrically defined hull or structure, and its internal compartments. The system was revolutionary in its day, and a market leader for a considerable time.

The system has undergone two major transformations since then: in the latter part of the 1980’s the SEASAFE system was introduced, which provided a more interactive system than the original SIKOB programs; the second major change is happening now, and centres on enhancing the general loading, stability and strength module, GSTAB. Also, the rest of the SEASAFE system is gradually being replaced by a modern interactive graphics-oriented integrated system.

The company has also developed a stand-alone software package, PLF, which is tailored  to define and calculate stability of semi-submersible offshore platforms. It enables the definition of a platform type structure, the production of hydrostatic data, as well as the intact and damage stability analyses.

During the last several years the company has also delivered a considerable number of onboard loading, stability and strength computers to various types of ships and to semi-submersibles offshore platforms.
